Grillin' Fools

Scott Thomas, St Louis, MO

I would love my Primo even if it were shaped like all the other kamado grills out there – it’s built like a tank! Add in the fact that it has a larger cooking surface than any other kamado on the market with its unique oval shape, and I've got exactly what I need for the largest of backyard bashes. I love this over-engineered behemoth!

I'm sure my kids will too when they fight over it after my funeral, because I fully expect the grill to outlast me by many decades.

Hooked on BBQ

After a trip to Austin, Texas, I was immediately "Hooked on BBQ". This passion has led me through backyard grilling, BBQ competitions, and then to social media.

When I first saw the Primo XL, I knew this was going to change my life. Ceramic grills have so many advantages over regular grills, especially in the North East. I have used the Primo XL in 20 degrees below zero. It never skipped a beat. The oval design really gives this grill a huge advantage over any other grill. The Primo gives you multiple levels, multiple heat zones, and if you love using cast iron pans, this extra space makes it so much easier. I have several grills at my house, but when people walk into my backyard they always ask, “what is that oval grill?” My prompt response is always, “this is my Primo XL that was proudly made in the USA.”

I started off cooking about 4 years ago. I made ribs one 4th of July and they were really bad. That woke up a sleeping passion to cook good BBQ. The Primo is by far a great cooker, as it has plenty of space to cook a feast. I have cooked ribs, brisket, pork shoulders, and most recently, salmon. I highly recommend it, as it’s not only good for high heat cooking but also very gentle on the temps with the right amount of air flow. It’s also made here in the USA, which is a plus in my book.

I was delighted and intimidated after setting up my Primo Oval XL! As an award winning competitive cook, I’m known for my cooking skills along with the nickname of Grilling Grandma. However, I never smoked meats and vegetables on my own! Some will find that crazy to believe, because I travel with #SocialFeasts influencers who are ultra-talented grill masters. But at the camp site and at home, someone was always stepping in to build the fire or control the temperature.

Surprisingly, I did not smoke or grill on the Primo Ceramic Grill the day I opened the box. For a few days, I nervously watched every Primo video and read all I could on smoking meat. Could I learn how to smoke meat as a Grandma?

I waited until everyone was off my turf so I could light the Primo and regulate the heat by myself. I was determined that Grilling Grandma could become Smoking Grandma! As I lit the fire, I was shocked how easily the Primo Lump Charcoal ignited…the very first time! Two hours later, the tastiest smoked spatchcock chicken was plated, and I waited for my tribe to return so I could brush the charcoal off my apron and look like a Primo pro! Many cooks later, I sparkle when I share how much I love grilling and smoking on my Primo Oval XL! Let me say it in Grandma terms, I absolutely adore my gorgeous Primo Ceramic Grill! Every dish I smoked turned out moist, flavorful, and rave worthy! So rewarding….and so easy!

I’m a barbecue enthusiast and Primo is the way to go. I loved cooking as a young boy, and as I got older my love for barbecue and smoking meats grew stronger and stronger!

My family is big and we all enjoy a nice weekend barbecue.. I mean who wouldn’t? It’s such a great gathering place and it really brings friends and family closer together… literally! Not only is spending quality time with my family important to me but I’m proud to own a Primo Ceramic Grill to provide exceptional flavor to any event.

There is so much to love about the Primo and some of my favorites are the continuous consistent temperature it holds. Whether it’s for small 1.5 hour cook or a 16 hour cook, the Primo can handle it. There are quite a few accessories to elevate your cooking experience - extension racks, rib racks, pizza stones, etc.

I have used quite a few grills and smokers in my lifetime and I can honestly say Primo is 1st on my list. Just the versatility and everything it has to offer will have me a fan for a lifetime. I cater and do local pop-ups here in my local home town and I’m excited to bring my Primo to the table. Look out Salem, here we come!

We have been cooking on the Primo XL Oval for a few years now. The Primo is a great cooker, and a big plus for us is that it’s made in the USA. The Primo XL Oval holds temps with no issues. In our opinion, all proteins cooked in the Primo cook evenly and fast. We highly recommend the Primo Oval XL.
